How Do I Port A Number When Activating A Palm Pre?

Porting your cell phone number to Sprint requires that ALL the information in your new account matches your old carrier. Bring a copy of your latest bill, have your user id and password for your carrier's website in case you need it and the password to the account. You cannot port a number in one person's name into a new account in another person's name. Only the authorized person on the account can do the port.

Here's an example. Jay is on a family plan that his father pays for. Jay wants a Palm Pre on his own account at Sprint. First, Jay should confirm that he qualifies for an account with Sprint by letting the rep run his credit check. If all goes well, His father will then port the number to Sprint in his name. Then after a few days, they can call customer service and do a Change Of Responsibility. This will change the authorized person on the account from Jay's father to Jay.

Here's another example. Tim and Sharon recently got married, they each have a cell phone on a different carrier. They want to save some money and have free mobile to mobile minutes by getting two Palm Pre's at Sprint. First they have to port their numbers to two new individual accounts at Sprint.  Then, after a few days, they can convert one of the accounts to a family plan and merge the other number into it by doing  a Change Of Responsibility. They could also take advantage of Sprint's referral program.

Following these steps helps insure you have a smooth port.
